The Laramie Project
The Laramie Project is a highly acclaimed drama based on an unforgettable event. In October 1998, Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student in Laramie, Wyoming, was the victim of a vicious hate crime from which he ultimately died. After his death, the members of a New York theatrical company travelled to Laramie to interview its residents. This play is a compilation of those interviews, journal entries, and found texts. It reflects the breadth of reactions to this horrific crime as well as the hopes, aspirations, and compassion of a town trying to heal itself.
